Can I claim compensation for a burns injury from work without logging it in the accident book?

Hello, I work as a beautician in a salon and have been qualified as a beautician for 3 years now.

A few weeks ago I was using some chemicals for hair treatment and was not provided any protective gloves, the skin on my hands became irritated and got worse later on as the burns flared up.

I tried cleaning my hands but the irritation kept getting worse and my skin became all broken and cut, I had to take a week off work while the cuts and blisters healed and I was left with ugly, unsightly scars all over my hands.

I never logged the incident in the store accident book because I thought it was just a little bit of normal irritation and went home, then things got worse.

Since I have been back a few of the other gitls have said they would vouch for me and I have photographic evidence from when my hands were inflamed along with the scars, also I have been to the doctors several times.

How much compensation do you think I could claim for burns and scars from work?

Thank you

Hi Zoe,

Thank you for your enquiry. I am sorry to hear of your accident.

I am pleased to advise that you would qualify to make a claim as you have supporting evidence.

We have to obtain what is known as a medico-legal report to support any claim for personal injury compensation. This is a straight forward process and we would take care of this and arrange the appointment for you. Once we have that report we would know how much your claim is likely to be worth. Generally speaking it depends on how long it takes you to recover or if they are permanent, the amount of scarring on your hands. If, say, the majority of your hands are scarred, you could be offered £9,000 or more.

We would support you throughout the whole process.
