Can I claim compensation for a pedestrian accident if I was using the traffic lights at a zebra crossing?

I was crossing the road at a set of traffic lights at a zebra crossing, I thought the lights had gone green for me and red for the traffic, but I was run over by a hit and run driver.

I was knocked unconscious and suffered a broken arm and fractured forearm, the other driver had perfect visibility and the conditions were dry but they did not stop or slow down, how much compensation could I claim?
I have reported the incident to the police, but do I need to wait for a prosecution to claim?
