Can I claim compensation for an accident at work in school and still keep my job?

Hi, I've injured my finger at work. I wonder if I may be entitled to any compensation?

I am a primary school teacher and about a week ago there was a fire drill, a lot of people including students and teachers were exiting the building into the stairs and i was letting the people pass I must have leaned on a wall with my hand and my finger got caught between wall and door and then someone pushed on the door.

I held the door because I felt responsible for making sure all of my class had made their way out of the building during the drill, so I feel the accident was not my fault.

I was badly hurt and in a lot of pain, lost my nail completely and had a fracture to my right index finger
I spoke to security and they said they would report it.

I have received medical attention when I went to the walk in centre and had surgery in the hospital, I had to get stitches and my finger put in a splint.
If I do make a claim for compensation would I be suing the school or would I claim money from the government?

Also what advice can you give me about my job security if I did make a claim?

Thank you
