Can I claim compensation for being assaulted at school?

I was assaulted by another pupil while at school, I was caught alone and no teachers or staff were to be found.
I have suffered a broken jaw and a broken nose, how much compensation could I be entitled to?
I have made a report to the police and the other student has been expelled, can I claim?
