Can I claim compensation for work related back injuries due to damage over time?

I have suffered a work related injury that was not my fault and it wasn't due to a single incident, however according to the doctor that I went to see about it, the damage and degradation has built up.

According to my employer it wasn't companies fault, but strangely enough few weeks after I came back to work we all started receiving manual handling course which we didn't do before that
We do occasionally lift some heavier loads for a prolonged periods of time and it is impossible to lift them and manoeuvre safely and to accomplish the task you have to twist and bend your back.

After a few years I finished work one day and I felt fine but next morning I couldn't get off my bed. I spent weeks recovering and then I went to see a specialist doctor for skeletal disorders and he found that my hip was misaligned which in turn caused the pain.
When I explained the nature of my work the doctor admitted that it could have and probably did caused the problem.

The incident triggered a procedure that my employer practices and there is a detailed report about what happened in the business accident book.
