Can I claim compensation from the housing agency for flooding due to faulty plumbing in my council house?

Me and my family were recently moved by the local housing association into a new council flat.
We have complained about many issues with the house including the plumbing for months but lately the pipes have totally burst and started leaking flooding the house and we have had to move about for a few weeks, could we claim compensation and how much money could we be entitled to?
