Can I make a historical abuse claim if the person who did it to me is now dead?

Without going into too much detail I just want to know if I can claim compensation for abuse I experienced in the past, my only worry is that the abuser is now dead and the police may not re open the case if they need to for a claim. Thanks.

Hi Crivair, so sorry that you've experienced this in your life. As long as a police report and crime reference number can be obtained then yes you can still claim if the person in question has passed away. The police may not need to open a case again to re-investigate but for the purposes of a claim through the CICA there would just need to be proof that a report to the police was made is all.
