Dental surgery led to infection, was out of work, can I claim compensation for medical negligence?

Can someone help me, I feel I have been the victim of medical negligence from my dentist with serious consequences to my health and my gp has told there is a chance it could spread down my spine and cause paralysis.

I caught a bacterial infection during the time I had 4 of my teeth done to have crown put on. I had an appointment to fix a tooth that had broken when my dentists convinced me to get another 3 fixed with a crown as well while I was there.
So I came back to the dental surgery a week later to have the operation of my mouth, it was a messy procedure, very in professional and obviously not sanitary or hygienic, the dentist hurt me several times, made mistakes and cut my gums, which is where infection took hold.

I had an abscess on my jaw and agonising tooth ache the following few days later and for weeks after, it didn't get better and I went to see my dentist, who sent me to my doctor who gave me antibiotics and told me the severity of the illness, saying it could even be fatal!

The infection has definitely run me down and I feel like I have flu and am dead weak.
I am still suffering with the infection. I have lost 30 pounds of weight due to the sickness and I have missed a lot of work.

Can I sue my dentist for medical negligence?
Could I claim compensation for loss of earnings as well?
How much money could I be entitled to for damages like this?

thanks
