Driver texting on phone crashed into rear end of car and broke my back, how do I claim compensation?

I was in a car accident while stationary at a red light, the driver behind slammed into the back of me car and smashed my rear end up, my car was pushed by the other party onto the zebra crossing and a pedestrian who was nearly ran over witnessed the incident, the were livid and said the other driver had been looking at their mobile phone while driving carelessly and endangering other drivers, they were not paying attention, did not see me and went into the back of my car.

The ped was arguing with the other driver who apologised to us and admitted liability, so I have witnesses and should have video evidence from the CCTV at the lights, I am surprised I have not been in trouble for running a red light.

How much compensation do people receive if a driver who was texting while driving crashed into the back of another driver and caused a broken back?

I was unable to recover from the pain of injuries at the time and called an ambulance because my spine was hurt and I didn't want to end up paralysed, the doctors took an MRI and told me I had severely fractured my spinal vertebrae and that my injuries could have been much worse or permanent.
