How and what do I have to pay a solicitor to claim for an assault?

I have assaulted and I was wondering how much I would have to pay a solicitor to claim compensation for me.
Would I have to pay before making a claim or would the fee be taken out of my compensation?
Would I have to pay expenses if I did not win compensation in court?
How much is the solicitors fee for a CICA assault case?
Are there any other hidden chargers I need to know about?
