How much compensation can I claim for being stabbed 8 times?

I was the victim of an unprovoked attack, I was assaulted by a gang of lads, young men for no known reason and I was stabbed and would like to claim compensation, I have reported the incident to the police and they are still investigating, do I have a claim to compensation?

I was on my way home from work in London and I was jumped for no reason and stabbed 8 times and had to go to hospital in an ambulance, how much compensation could I be entitled to?
