How much compensation can my child claim for wounds from a dog bite attack?

Hello, I need some free legal advice about making a claim for compensation.

My child has been bitten by a dog and was severely wounded and now needs an operation as a result of the incident.

We don't know the dog or the owners personally but we do know where the house address is.
He was just out playing with his friends close to our street when the accident took place and it was no fault of his own, the dog should not have been loose as it was obviously dangerous.

He has scrapes and lacerations to the knee from falling while trying to run away and he has small cuts on legs and his bottom from the attack. He has a large bite mark, quite deep on his buttock.

He has been taken to hospital in an ambulance and the doctors have said he will have to have surgery cleaning of the wound and repair under general anaesthetic.

I have called the police and made a report to get the dog put down as it needs to be destroyed or secluded.
