How much compensation could we be entitled to for a trip and fall accident on a pot hole?

I would like some free legal advice about making a claim for compensation for personal injuries my wife suffered after a trip and fall accident in a public place.

My wife fell down a pothole in the pavement and has suffered an unstable fracture to her ankle.

She was just walking home from the shops and was crossing the road safely, she failed to notice the big pot hole in the road as she as looking for traffic and as she walked over the hole she caught her foot, tripped and fell over in road.

The pothole was very deep, id say it was 4" inches deep and even wider, she caught her toes in it so bad she severely twisted her ankle as she fell, she landed on her hands and badly banged her knee which is swollen and bruised and her palms and arms are scraped and cut off the tarmac.

We had to book an appointment with GP, because she had trouble walking with a limp, he said she had fractured her ankle and gave her a 3 week prognosis to recover and stay off the ankle and off work.

I'm reading up on claiming compensation.
