I got ran over but forgot to take the car registration plate can I still claim compensation?

I was crossing the road and a car speeded around the corner they was doing about 50 mph on a 30 mph road I tried to jump out the way but the car struck me hitting me up in the air. I could still walk I was in shock the driver stopped to see if I was ok he left me a phone number but their was only 10 digits it does not work. I was very worried that I did not take his licence plate number. I now have a hip injury back injury and neck injury can I still claim compensation any help is highly appreciated thank you in advance.
