I had a fall and injured my back on a bus when it stopped suddenly, can I claim compensation?

I had a bad fall on public transport that was not my fault, I badly hurt my self and would like to claim compensation for my personal injury.
It was coming to red lights i believe and he decided to brake suddenly rather than gradually as they normally do. I had my daughter and was trying to make sure she was seated first but didn't have time to sit down my self.

I got thrown over by the momentum, fell and hit my lower back on a bus yesterday after it braked sharply. I am just curious of I can claim on this?

I was angry and in pain at the time and had an argument with the driver, he apologised and admitted to braking to heavily.

I never went to hospital I thought nothing of it at the time but after speaking to various family and friends i have realised that the driver was not really driving with due care and attention.
My back is stiff and aching and I think have whiplash so I am going to go to my GP.

Should I try to claim compensation for my damages from the bus driver or the coach company itself?
And how much money could I be entitled to for an incident like this?

Thank you
