I was injured unloading a truck at work and badly cut open my hand and need stitches, can I claim compensation?

I was working in a storage warehouse and the other day a lorry came with a big drop off, it was full of wood and I was told to help empty the lumber off the truck, I was asking for gloves as I didn’t have non because I am supposed to work on the front desk, I have not even been given manual handling training, now the wood caused a big gash to cut open on the palm of my hand I have had to go get stitches in a and e, can I make a claim for compensation?
