Hi Isabel
Firstly, I'm so sorry to hear about your accident. The driver certainly does sound like an idiot and depending on what happened, you could be able to sue him for compensation.
If the driver wasn't paying attention, was speeding or driving recklessly, or carried out a poor manoeuvre or something of that nature, this could be deemed a breach of the Highway Code. As a result, they could be found liable.
Firstly, if you haven't already, get yourself checked over by a medical practitioner. This could be your local GP or the local walk-in centre. This, crucially, creates a record of the accident as well as ensuring you're not more seriously harmed.
Hopefully, you were able to get the driver's details. At the very least you need the car's registration plate. The driver can usually be traced from there. If any CCTV captured the accident, try your best to get a hold of it in case it gets deleted after so many days. And if anybody witnessed the accident, be sure to keep hold of their details--such evidence usually proves crucial.
