I work in a hospital and pricked my finger on a needle can I claim compensation for becoming ill?

I work as a nurse in an NHS hospital, while I was cleaning up a patients bed are I pricked my finger on a broken needle stick, the nurses and doctors before must have left the broken syringe out and did not inform us the cleaners and caretakers that there was a risk of being punctured by the needle or risk of illness or injury, I was pricked by a needle because of their incompetence and now I have been sick and have to go to hospital to be treated and hospitalized because I am sick from this accident, can I claim compensation for being pricked by a syringe needle at work?
