Should I accept an offer of compensation from the insurance company for an RTA?

I was in a road traffic accident, a car crash, that was not my fault and I have suffered severe whiplash, my insurer has made me an offer of compensation before I make my claim and I am wondering if I could get more for my injuries if I turn down the offer hire a solicitor to help me claim compensation?
