Teacher injured by violent pupil, incident working in school, can I claim compensation?

Hi. I suffered a knee injury at school due to a violent pupil. It occurred in March and I have had an MRI scan which shows battering to the front and back cartridges and shredding to the ligament. I am able to work but have constant pain, specifically when walking I have a limp and undertaking certain teaching duties, I have had severe whiplash, and suffer back pain, stiff neck and head aches. I was using physical restraint on a pupil, for which I am trained and which is permissible under the school policy in the right circumstances. I endured repeated punches to my face, kicking to my legs, resulting in bruising, and scratches to my arm and wrist. At one point, the pupil managed to make me lose my balance and I fell banging my head on a table. This was not the first time I have suffered physical injury or abuse by this pupil and other staff had also had the same experiences of the kind. Can I claim against the local education authority - (lea) for compensation for my damages at work? thanks
