Tripped and fell over on a cable wire, injured knees and chest, out of work, what can I claim?

Hi I had an accident in a public place, I tripped fell and hurt my chest and knees and 4 weeks later I am still in pain now and out of work sick.

I tripped over a wire cable what was left out on the surface of a public foot path out side a house and hurt my chest and knees, the trip was unexpected causing me to fall over on to me knees and chest with my hands saving my face, although my palms were covered in cuts and scratches.

The wire was a hazardous and a danger with no warning signs, another elderly person could have been seriously injured.

I am still having bad chest pains from this and it's been over a month I have been to see a doctor about this card and I have been unable to work and missed a months wages.

Can I claim compensation for the accident against the work company or council?

how much compensation can I claim for these injuries and loss of earnings?

And around how long does it take for a compensation claim to go throw and what are the chances in your opinion do you think I have a claim and will go threw?
