Can me and my partner claim for misdiagnosis of cancer which led to it spreading?

My partner is suffering from liver cancer and we have been to the hospital for test multiple times and doctors never found it, we have just found out he has cancer and it has spread to other parts of his body, I have been told the spread could have been prevented had he not been misdiagnosed, can we claim compensation for medical negligence?
